Hongya Cave · Yangtze River · Hot Pot · Mountain City · 18 Districts
Chongqing (重庆) is China's largest municipality by area (82,000 km²) and famously known as the "Mountain City" — its roads twist through hills, and many buildings have entrances on both the 1st and 15th floors! As the capital of hot pot, it's where you'll taste the numbing-spicy authentic Sichuan cuisine that defines Chinese food culture.
With 18 districts under its administration, Chongqing stretches from the ultra-modern riverfront of Jiangbei to the ancient stone paths of Ciqikou. The Yangtze River bisects the city, crossed by the iconic cableway and the LED-lit Qiansimen Bridge. At night, the entire city glows with millions of lights — it's been called "China's most beautiful city at night."
Key highlights include the 11-story stilt-house complex of Hongya Cave, the 2,000-year-old Ciqikou Ancient Town, the Liberation Monument (the city's historical heart), and the Dazu Rock Carvings — a UNESCO World Heritage site just 1.5 hours away. Allow 3-4 days to explore properly.

The most iconic sight in Chongqing — an 11-story stilt-house complex built into a cliff face overlooking the Jialing River. At night, thousands of gold lights transform it into a magical palace seemingly floating above the river. Best photos are from Qiansimen Bridge at 7-8 PM.
The complex houses dozens of restaurants, souvenir shops, and bars on every level. You can enter from the top (11th floor) or the bottom (1st floor) — both are ground level due to the mountain terrain! Try the local street food: spicy rabbit skewers and ice jelly with brown sugar.

At night, the Liberation Monument area comes alive with neon lights, street performers, and the city's highest concentration of hot pot restaurants. It's the best place to experience Chongqing's famous "3D navigation" — where the 1st floor of a building might be a different street level than the 15th floor!
