🌸 Spring (March–May) — BEST season: Expo Garden blooms & perfect park weather: Spring is the ideal time to visit Liangjiang. The Expo Garden's 200+ exhibition gardens are in full bloom — the plum blossoms (March), cherry blossoms (April), and azaleas (May) are spectacular. The Zhaomu Mountain bamboo forest is lush and green. The weather (14–25°C) is perfect for outdoor activities (Zhaomu Mountain hike, Central Park walk, Expo Garden exploration). The China International Smart Industry Expo (智博会) is held in August, but spring has smaller, more relaxed trade shows. The Love Land rose garden begins blooming in May.
☀️ Summer (June–August) — HOT but theme park season & water park fun: Summer is EXTREMELY hot (37–40°C) in Liangjiang, but this is prime season for the Happy Valley Water Kingdom (¥120 or included in ¥280 combined ticket). The park's evening hours (until 9:00pm in summer) allow for evening rides after the sun goes down. The Expo Garden's lotus pond (荷花池, 10,000+ plants) blooms spectacularly in July–August. The Lijia Smart Park's indoor pavilions are air-conditioned. The Zhaomu Mountain is 3–5°C cooler than the city center and popular for early morning (6:00–8:00am) jogging. The best summer strategy: early morning park visit → air-conditioned indoor activity (Jinshan Yiku galleries, Lijia Smart Park pavilions) → late afternoon Happy Valley (3:00pm–9:00pm).
🍂 Autumn (September–November) — Second best season: golden gingko & trade fair season: Autumn (15–26°C) is excellent. Zhaomu Mountain's Gingko Avenue (银杏大道) turns brilliant gold in November — the most spectacular moment in Liangjiang's entire calendar. The Expo Garden's chrysanthemums bloom (October–November). The air is clear and crisp — the Expo Center's observation terrace has the best city views. Autumn is also the peak season for the major trade fairs (Auto Show in September, Commodities Fair in October). The weather is perfect for the 2.5km Zhaomu Mountain hike and the 2.5km Central Park boardwalk.
❄️ Winter (December–February) — Cool, foggy & great for indoor exploration: Winter (5–10°C, humid) is the quietest season in Liangjiang. The Expo Garden is less crowded and more atmospheric in winter fog. The Jinshan Yiku galleries are warm and cozy. The Lijia Smart Park's indoor pavilions (5G experience, smart city exhibition) are perfect for a winter afternoon. The Happy Valley is open but many outdoor rides close during cold/rainy weather (check the park's weather policy at the entrance). The Love Land Park's White Chapel is surrounded by winter mist — a beautiful and romantic sight. Winter hot pot at Haidilao (¥80–120/person) is the ultimate comfort meal after a chilly day exploring.

- Recommended 1-day itinerary: Morning (9:00–12:00): Expo Garden (¥20, 3 hours). Lunch (12:00–13:00): Jiangnan Restaurant (¥35–55) or food street. Afternoon (13:30–16:00): Lijia Smart Park (free, 2.5 hours) — ride the driverless shuttle, visit the 5G pavilion. Late afternoon (16:30–18:30): Zhaomu Mountain hike (free, 2 hours). - Happy Valley strategy: Arrive at opening time (9:00am weekdays or 9:30am weekends) and head to the most popular rides FIRST ("The Feathered Serpent" × "The Storm"). The average wait time for popular rides is 30–90 minutes on weekends. The express pass (¥100) is worth every yuan if you're only visiting for one day. Avoid Chinese holidays (National Day Oct 1–7, Labor Day May 1–3) when crowds are unbearable (100,000+ visitors/day).
- Expo Garden navigation: The garden is 3.3km² — walking the full loop takes 3+ hours. Use the golf cart (¥15/person, 30 minutes) to cover the main zones efficiently, then walk through your favorite sections. The garden is poorly signed in English — download the "Chongqing Expo Garden" app (Chinese only) for navigation, or pick up a paper map at the main gate (¥5). The international gardens are near the south entrance — start there and work north.
- Jinshan Yiku artist studio hours: Many studios are OPEN TO THE PUBLIC only on WEEKDAYS (artists are working and happy to chat). On weekends, most studios are closed. Thursday–Friday mornings (10:00am–12:00pm) are the best time for serious art visitors. The Silo Gallery is an exception — it's open every day except Monday.
