Shunyi District

Shunyi 顺义区 — Olympic Legacy & International Flair

Shunyi (顺义区) is Beijing's northeastern aviation and sports hub — home to Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK) and the 2008 Olympic Rowing/Canoeing Venue (now the Olympic Water Park). But Shunyi is far more than an airport gateway: the district features Hanshikiao Wetland Park (汉石桥湿地, Beijing's largest plain wetland), Jiaozhuanghu Tunnel Warfare Memorial (焦庄户地道战, a famous WWII resistance site), and the spectacular Beijing International Flower Port (北京国际鲜花港, 4 km² of themed flower gardens). The district is also an agricultural powerhouse — known as Beijing's "granary" (京郊粮仓) with vast vegetable greenhouses, cherry orchards, and the annual Sunflower Sea (向日葵海, July–August). With flat terrain, extensive bike paths, and a relaxed suburban atmosphere, Shunyi is perfect for family day trips, sports enthusiasts, and anyone flying in/out of Beijing.

From the airport: Shunyi is right next to Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK) — only 15–20 min by taxi (¥30–50) or Bus Airport Express (¥15) to Shunyi town. Many visitors combine an airport layover with a half-day Shunyi trip.

Self-driving: Via G101 National Road (京沈路) or Jingcheng Expressway (京承高速) — 40–50 min from downtown Beijing. All major attractions have free parking. G101 is a scenic riverside drive along the Chaobai River.

Bus network: Shunyi has an extensive local bus network (Shun1–Shun60) connecting all attractions. Fares are ¥1–3. The "Shun" buses depart from Shunyi Bus Terminal (顺义汽车站, near Shunyi Metro Station).

Bike sharing: The entire Chaobai River greenway has Hellobike and Meituan bike stations every 1–2 km — perfect for a 12 km riverside ride from Olympic Water Park to Hanyu Bridge.
